A DIY soldering kit that builds into a functional ultrasonic distance meter. Using an HC-SR04 ultrasonic sensor, STC89C52 microcontroller, and 3-digit 7-segment display, this kit measures distances from 5cm to 4m with a built-in buzzer alarm when objects get too close.
The microcontroller comes pre-programmed, so once assembled the device is ready to use. Set your distance threshold using the onboard buttons – the buzzer sounds when objects are closer than your set value. Settings are retained after power-off.
Key Features
- 5cm to 4m Range – Accurate ultrasonic distance measurement displayed on 7-segment LED
- Adjustable Alarm – Set a distance threshold; buzzer alerts when objects are closer
- Pre-Programmed MCU – STC89C52 microcontroller comes ready to run
- Button Controls – Adjust settings with +, -, and Set buttons
- Memory Retention – Alarm settings saved after power-off
- USB or Battery Power – Includes both USB cable and battery holder

Jargon buster
Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.
- LED
- A light-emitting diode is a small electronic component that lights up when current flows through it in the correct direction. In this kit, LEDs create the flashing effect, so polarity and correct soldering matter for the project to work.
- microcontroller
- A microcontroller is a small computer on a chip that runs your program and controls connected inputs and outputs. For this product, it is the part that reads buttons and sensors, drives the display and speaker, and communicates over Bluetooth.
- PCB
- A printed circuit board is a rigid board with copper tracks that connect electronic parts without loose wires. For this kit, the PCBs also form the airplane shape, so they are both the circuit base and part of the finished model.
- SR04 ultrasonic module
- An SR04 ultrasonic module is a distance sensor that sends out a short sound pulse and measures the echo returning from an object. It matters because it lets a robot detect obstacles or measure distance without touching anything.
