A 4-port RS-485 bus hub with optical isolation and surge protection, designed for industrial environments with complex electromagnetic interference. Each port is independently opto-isolated at 2500 V and protected against 600 W lightning surges, ensuring that a fault on one network segment does not affect the others.

The hub provides star-topology RS-485 bus connections with automatic data direction sensing, eliminating manual transmit/receive switching. It supports transmission distances up to 5 km (at 300 bps) or 1.2 km (at 115.2 kbps) over twisted pair or shielded cable, and is powered by a wide-range 9–30 V DC supply suitable for outdoor and industrial installations.

Key Features

  • 4-Port Star Topology – Split one RS-485 bus into four independently protected segments
  • 2500 V Optical Isolation – Prevents surge propagation between ports
  • 600 W Surge Protection – Per-line lightning and transient protection on RS-485 ports
  • ±15 kV ESD Protection – On the RS-232 port
  • Automatic Direction Sensing – No manual transmit/receive control needed
  • Short-Circuit & Open-Circuit Protection – On each port independently
  • 7 Status LEDs – Power, TX, RX, and per-port fault indicators (E1–E4)

Specifications

  • Interface Standards – RS-232C and RS-485 (EIA/TIA compatible)
  • Working Mode – Asynchronous half-duplex
  • Transmission Rate – 300 bps to 115.2 kbps
  • Transmission Distance – Up to 5 km (speed-dependent)
  • Transmission Medium – Twisted pair or shielded cable
  • Electrical Interface – 10-position pluggable terminal blocks (both sides)
  • Power Supply – 9–30 V DC, 150 mA
  • Operating Temperature – −25 to 70 °C
  • Operating Humidity – 5–95% RH
  • Maximum Altitude – 3000 m
  • Dimensions – 120 × 77 × 40 mm

Ideal For

  • Industrial RS-485 networks requiring segment isolation
  • Power acquisition and monitoring systems
  • Outdoor and electromagnetically noisy environments
  • Large-scale RS-485 bus architectures

Package Contents

  • 1× Industrial RS-485 Opto-Isolated Hub

Jargon buster

Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.

E1
A Galileo satellite signal band used for standard positioning. Knowing which signal bands are supported helps you judge compatibility and expected performance of a GNSS receiver.
electromagnetic interference
Electromagnetic interference is unwanted electrical noise from nearby devices, cables, or radio signals that can disturb a signal in a wire. Shielding helps reduce this noise, which matters for network adapters because cleaner signals are less likely to cause unreliable connections or data errors.
ESD protection
ESD protection helps protect electronics from damage caused by static electricity discharges. It is useful on development boards because cables, sensors and modules are often plugged and unplugged during prototyping.
RS-232
An older serial communication standard that uses higher signal voltages than modern microcontroller logic pins. If you are connecting this breakout to a microcontroller, you may need an RS-232 interface or level converter rather than wiring it directly.
