The Air780EU is a 4G Cat 1 communication module for IoT projects that need cellular connectivity across Europe, the Middle East, Russia, Thailand, Africa and other supported regions. It operates on LTE-FDD B1/B3/B7/B8/B20/B28 bands and provides up to 10Mbps downlink and 5Mbps uplink.

It brings the cellular side down to simpler serial programming, with UART communication and AT command control for use with MCUs and development boards. Built-in protocol support includes TCP, UDP, PPP, HTTP, HTTPS, MQTT and more, helping reduce low-level network development work.

The module also includes USB Type-C connectivity with USB network card functionality, tested for driver-free operation on PC, Raspberry Pi and LattePanda. Low-power sleep mode, UART wake-up and periodic interrupt wake-up make it suitable for battery-aware IoT deployments.

Included in the package are the Gravity Air780EU 4G Cat 1 communication module, a 4G stick antenna and a UART PH2.0-4P connecting cable. Documentation includes a product wiki, schematic, AT command set, 2D CAD and 3D STP files.

Features:

  • Supports LTE-FDD B1/B3/B7/B8/B20/B28 frequency bands.
  • Offers 4G CAT1 communication with maximum data rates of up to 10Mbps (downlink) and up to 5Mbps (uplink).
  • Integrates network protocols such as TCP/UDP/PPP/HTTP/NITZ/NDIS/NTP/HTTPS/MQTT, eliminating the need for low-level development.
  • Features a UART interface with AT command control for standard serial communication, ensuring ease of use.
  • Equipped with a TYPE-C interface and USB network card functionality, supporting driver-free USB network capabilities on PC, Raspberry Pi, and LattePanda.
  • Includes a low-power mode, with serial data wake-up and periodic interrupt wake-up features.
  • Compatible with 3.3V and 5V logic level.
  • Supports a power supply voltage range of 5V-12V.

  • Power supply voltage - USB port: 5V
  • Power supply voltage - Terminal block: 5V-12V (recommended for long-term deployment)
  • Power supply voltage - UART interface: 3.3V-5V (this interface has lower power and may not ensure normal communication, only for testing)
  • Operating Temperature: -40°C ~ 85°C
  • PCB size: 42mm×37mm

Well suited to agricultural monitoring, environmental sensing, remote lighting control, mobile payment networks and other IoT systems that need external 4G communication.

Jargon buster

Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.

AT command set
An AT command set is a text-based control language sent over a serial terminal to configure a device. It matters because you can change settings such as baud rate and flow control without writing custom firmware.
Gravity
Gravity is DFRobot’s plug-in connector system for sensors, motors and modules, using standard cables to reduce loose jumper wiring. It matters because Gravity-compatible parts can connect directly to these ports, while non-Gravity parts may need adapters or manual wiring.
IoT
Short for Internet of Things, meaning physical devices that connect to networks or the internet to send data or be controlled remotely. It matters if you want projects such as connected sensors, remote controls or classroom data-logging activities.
MQTT
A lightweight messaging protocol often used for IoT devices to publish and receive data through a server called a broker. It matters for home automation and sensor networks because it is simple, efficient, and widely supported.
Nano SIM
Nano SIM is the small SIM card size used by many phones and cellular modules. It matters because this board needs a compatible cellular SIM and service plan before it can connect to a mobile network.
PCB
A printed circuit board is a rigid board with copper tracks that connect electronic parts without loose wires. For this kit, the PCBs also form the airplane shape, so they are both the circuit base and part of the finished model.
SMA
A threaded coaxial connector commonly used for antennas. It matters because you need antennas with matching SMA connectors, or suitable adapters, for the LTE and GNSS antenna ports.
Terminal block
A connector used to join wires together in a neat, removable, or serviceable way. For this product, it helps split one power input into several outputs without soldering.
Thread
A low-power wireless mesh networking standard designed for smart home and IoT devices. It matters because Thread devices can relay messages through each other, helping build reliable networks for sensors and controllers.
UART
UART is a simple serial connection that sends data over separate transmit and receive wires, often labelled TX and RX. It matters because this module is designed to replace a wired UART cable with a wireless link while keeping the same serial data format.
USB Type-C
A reversible USB connector used for power and data on many modern devices. On this kit it indicates an alternate 5V power input, which may be useful for setup or charging without the solar panel.
