This custom SparkFun kit was assembled for the Georgia Tech ECE3710 Circuits & Electronics class for the Fall 2017 semester. It is intended to support introductory work with electric circuit elements, electronic devices, and circuits built from those devices.

The kit brings together a selection of through-hole components for breadboard-based circuit experiments, including resistors, capacitors, an inductor, LEDs, a diode, trimpots, and a TL082ACP JFET op amp. A breadboard and jumper wires are also included so students can prototype circuits without soldering.

Jargon buster

Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.

1N4148
A common small-signal switching diode used for low-current electronic signals. It is a good choice for fast signal switching or simple protection tasks, but not for carrying large power currents.
LED
A light-emitting diode (LED) is a small electronic component that emits light when current flows through it in the correct direction. Because it only conducts one way, its polarity matters, and a through-hole LED must be soldered the correct way around to light up.
PTH
Plated through-hole means the pin holes are metal-lined so solder connects the pad on both sides of the board. It is useful for connectors and headers that need a strong mechanical and electrical connection.
through-hole
A mounting style where the component leads pass through holes in a circuit board and are soldered on the other side. Through-hole parts are often easier to handle and solder by hand, which is useful for classroom and hobby projects.
