The TFT Gizmo adds a vibrant 1.54" colour display and audio output to your Circuit Playground board. It bolts directly onto the back of your Circuit Playground using M3 standoffs that provide both mechanical support and electrical connections — no soldering or breadboarding required.

Once attached, you get a 240×240 IPS display with backlight control, a Class D audio amplifier with Molex PicoBlade speaker connector, and two 3-pin STEMMA connectors for NeoPixel strips or servos. Works with Arduino and CircuitPython on the Circuit Playground Express and Bluefruit.

Key Features

  • 1.54" IPS Display – 240×240 pixel full-colour screen with backlight control
  • Class D Audio Amplifier – Molex PicoBlade connector for a small speaker
  • 2× STEMMA Connectors – 3-pin connectors for NeoPixel strips or servos
  • Bolt-On Design – M3 standoffs for secure mechanical and electrical connection
  • No Soldering Required – Screw-together assembly
  • Arduino and CircuitPython – Full software support

Compatibility

  • Recommended: Circuit Playground Express and Circuit Playground Bluefruit (fast SPI hardware)
  • Compatible but not recommended: Circuit Playground Classic (slow bit-banged SPI)

Ideal For

  • Adding a colour display to Circuit Playground projects
  • Wearable electronics with visual feedback
  • Interactive art and games
  • Audio playback projects

Package Contents

  • 1× TFT Gizmo PCB with pre-soldered M3 standoffs
  • 12× M3 Screws
Note: Circuit Playground board and speaker are sold separately.

Jargon buster

Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.

CircuitPython
A beginner-friendly version of Python designed to run directly on microcontroller boards. If a product supports CircuitPython, you can often program it by copying code files onto the board rather than setting up a more complex toolchain.
IPS
IPS is a type of LCD panel that keeps colours and contrast more consistent when viewed from an angle. This matters for small displays that may be mounted in a dashboard, handheld project, or enclosure where the viewer is not always looking straight on.
NeoPixel
A type of addressable LED system where colour data is sent along a single digital data line from one LED or controller to the next. Compatibility matters because the timing and signal format must match for the lights or driver board to respond correctly.
PCB
A printed circuit board is a rigid board with copper tracks that connect electronic parts without loose wires. For this kit, the PCBs also form the airplane shape, so they are both the circuit base and part of the finished model.
SPI
A fast serial communication bus often used for displays, memory cards, and sensors. It matters because SPI devices need specific pins for clock and data, plus a separate chip-select line for each device.
STEMMA
A plug-and-cable connection system used on some maker electronics boards to make wiring simpler. If a product uses STEMMA, you need the matching cable or connector type to plug it in without soldering.
TFT
A thin-film transistor display is a common type of colour LCD used for graphics screens. Knowing a product is for TFTs helps you check that the driver board matches the display’s connector, resolution, backlight, and signalling method.
