Build it, code it, and it blows soap bubbles. Bubble:bit is a plywood-framed machine driven by a micro:bit - a servo dips the wand, a propeller pushes air through it, and an LED lights the result.

A micro:bit is required and is not included - one board per kit. We stock micro:bit boards separately.

In the box

  • MakeKit multi:bit control board
  • Lithium polymer battery
  • Bubble:bit plywood frame plus two small plywood parts
  • Servo with horn, propeller, LED
  • Two large and two small rubber rings, nuts and bolts

The payoff is immediate and visible, which makes it a good first project for students who need to see a result before they will commit to debugging one. The plywood parts come apart cleanly, so the kit can be rebuilt by the next class, and the multi:bit board carries over to other MakeKit projects such as Wheel:bit.

Jargon buster

Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.

LED
A light-emitting diode (LED) is a small electronic component that emits light when current flows through it in the correct direction. Because it only conducts one way, its polarity matters, and a through-hole LED must be soldered the correct way around to light up.
servo
A servo is a motor with built-in position control, usually told to move to a specific angle by a control signal. It matters when you need repeatable movement, such as steering, arms, flaps, or linkages, rather than continuous spinning.
