This hands-on STEM kit helps students build a working smart watering system while learning about automated agriculture, water conservation and climate action. It combines BOSON environmental sensors and a water pump with the included UNIHIKER K10 AI Coding Board to monitor soil moisture and available water levels, then automatically irrigate plants based on that data.
The bundle is designed for classrooms, STEM workshops and at-home learning for students aged 8 and up. Colourful Lego-compatible BOSON modules, drag-and-drop coding and a visual step-by-step curriculum make it approachable for beginners, while the project context connects coding and electronics to UN Sustainable Development Goal 15: Life on Land.
The kit supports both micro:bit and UNIHIKER K10 ecosystems, and includes tutorials for the K10. As part of the modular BOSON platform, it can also be extended with additional BOSON sensors and modules as students move from simple builds to more complex environmental monitoring projects.
Included: Building Block Expansion Board x1, Water Level Sensor x1, Soil Moisture Sensor x1, Water Pump x1, 3-Pin Cable x2, Small plastic box x1, Plastic container x2, Building Blocks Parts Pack x1, Adjustable watering dripper x2, Plastic Tee Connector x1, Plastic Straight Connector x1, Tube x3, UNIHIKER K10 x1, Type-C USB cable x1.

Jargon buster
Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.
- Boson
- Boson is a modular electronics system that uses plug-in cables and modules to connect sensors, buttons, displays, and controllers without much wiring. If a cable is marked for Boson, it is intended to fit that connector style and pin arrangement.
- ESP32
- ESP32 is a family of low-cost microcontroller chips and modules from Espressif with built-in WiFi and Bluetooth. They support programmable firmware and over-the-air updates, and are commonly programmed with toolchains such as the Arduino core and ESP-IDF.
- Gravity
- Gravity is DFRobot’s plug-in connector system for sensors, motors and modules, using standard cables to reduce loose jumper wiring. It matters because Gravity-compatible parts can connect directly to these ports, while non-Gravity parts may need adapters or manual wiring.
- Motion detection
- The ability to sense that something has moved, either by comparing successive camera frames or by using a dedicated sensor such as a PIR (infrared) or radar module. When a product lists motion detection, movement can be used as a trigger so a system only acts or records when there is activity rather than running continuously.
- RGB
- Short for red, green and blue, the three primary colours of light that are mixed in varying amounts to make a wide range of colours. In electronics RGB can refer to an LED or pixel that blends these three colours, or to a colour signal or interface that carries separate red, green and blue channels.
- SRAM
- Fast temporary memory used by a processor while a program is running. More SRAM helps with projects that handle larger data buffers, networking, displays, or more complex code.
- Type-C
- USB Type-C (USB-C) is a small, reversible USB connector used for charging, power, and data transfer on many modern devices. A Type-C port or plug indicates the cable and charger connection needed to power, charge, or communicate with a device.
- UNIHIKER
- UNIHIKER is a small programmable computer board used in education and maker projects, often connected to external sensors and modules. Compatibility matters because the cable must match the board’s connector type and pin layout.
- USB Type-C
- USB Type-C is a small, reversible USB connector used for power, data and sometimes video on many modern devices. The connector itself does not guarantee a particular speed or voltage, so check the supported USB version, data rate and whether it carries more than 5V via USB Power Delivery.
