The Adafruit Soft Flexible Wire NeoPixel Strand features 50 individually addressable RGB LEDs spaced approximately 100 mm (~4") apart on soft, plated wire. Unlike traditional flexible PCB strips that can crack when bent too far, these wire-based NeoPixels are ideal for costumes, wearables, and projects where flexibility and easy embedding are essential.

The wires can be sewn over or embedded in castings and structures. You can cut the strand to length with wire cutters and connect multiple strands together for longer runs. Connectors come pre-attached, and you can also solder directly to the flexible wires.

Key Features

  • 50 NeoPixels – Individually addressable RGB LEDs spaced ~100 mm apart
  • Soft Flexible Wire – Plated wire construction bends easily without cracking
  • Compact LEDs – Small enough to embed in costumes, wearables, and structures
  • Cuttable – Trim to length with standard wire cutters
  • Chainable – Connect multiple strands together for longer runs
  • Pre-Attached Connectors – Ready to connect out of the box

Wiring

  • Ground – Marked with a light red stripe
  • Data – Middle wire
  • +5V Power – Remaining wire

Ideal For

  • Costumes and cosplay lighting
  • Wearable electronics
  • Architectural and decorative installations
  • Casting and embedding in custom structures

Package Contents

  • 1× Soft flexible wire NeoPixel strand (50 LEDs, ~5 m total)
Important: Use a 5V DC power supply only — voltages above 6V will destroy the entire strip. Not weatherproof — do not wash or submerge. Wire coating may wear with repeated flexing; avoid abrasion.

Jargon buster

Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.

NeoPixel
A type of addressable LED system where colour data is sent along a single digital data line from one LED or controller to the next. Compatibility matters because the timing and signal format must match for the lights or driver board to respond correctly.
PCB
A printed circuit board is a rigid board with copper tracks that connect electronic parts without loose wires. For this kit, the PCBs also form the airplane shape, so they are both the circuit base and part of the finished model.
RGB
Short for red, green and blue, usually referring to an LED that can mix those three colours. It matters because controlling an RGB LED teaches how separate outputs combine to create different colours.
