The Adafruit Mini Lipo with Mini-B USB Jack is a compact charger for single-cell 3.7V/4.2V lithium polymer and lithium ion rechargeable batteries. Plug in any Mini USB cable to a USB power source and connect your battery via the JST connector — two LEDs show status at a glance (red = charging, green = complete). For a USB-C version, see the Micro-Lipo Charger with USB-C.
Charging uses a three-stage process: preconditioning, constant-current fast charge, then constant-voltage trickle charge. The default 100 mA charge rate works safely with any battery size. For larger batteries (500 mAh+), solder the jumper on the front to increase the charge current to 500 mA.
Key Features

Jargon buster
Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.
- LiPo
- A LiPo (lithium polymer) battery is a rechargeable lithium battery widely used in portable projects because it is light and compact. LiPo cells need correct charging circuitry and careful handling to stay safe, so equipment that supports LiPo generally includes charging or protection hardware suited to that battery type.
- solder jumper
- A solder jumper is a small pair or group of pads on a circuit board that can be bridged or cut with solder to change a hardware setting. It matters because changing modes may require careful soldering rather than just changing software.
- UPS
- An uninterruptible power supply is a battery-backed power system that keeps a device running when external power is unplugged or fails. For an embedded computer, it helps prevent sudden shutdowns that can corrupt files or interrupt a project.
- USB-C
- USB-C is a small, reversible USB connector that can carry power, data and, on some devices, video over a single cable. The same connector can range from charging only to high-speed data, so the functions a given port actually supports vary.
