Add a small, colourful display to any QT Py or Xiao project with the EYESPI BFF. This compact add-on board connects to EYESPI-compatible displays via an 18-pin 0.5mm pitch FPC connector, giving you a standardised way to wire up SPI displays without a mess of jumper wires.

The EYESPI standard is like STEMMA QT for displays — a consistent connector and pinout across a range of TFT and E-Ink breakouts. Look for the EYESPI logo on the back of compatible displays.

Pin Mapping

  • MOSI / MISO / SCK – Connected to the default SPI port on the QT Py
  • SDA / SCL – Connected to the I2C port on the QT Py headers (note: some boards have a separate QT Py I2C port on a different bus)
  • TFT CS – TX pin (reconfigurable via solder jumper)
  • TFT DC – RX pin (reconfigurable via solder jumper)

Optional Pins (Configurable via Solder Jumpers)

  • IRQ on A0 – Used by displays with touchscreens
  • Touch CS on A1 – For displays with resistive touchscreens
  • Memory CS on A2 – Used by E-Ink displays with separate SRAM chips
  • SD Card CS on A3 – For display breakouts with SD card sockets

Two additional through-hole solder pads are provided for Backlight Control and Display Reset, which can be wired with jumper wires if needed. Most displays default these to on, so they're typically optional.

breakout
A breakout is a small circuit board that makes a tiny or hard-to-solder component easier to connect to with standard pins. It matters because this OLED module can be wired into a microcontroller project without needing to solder directly to the display’s fine contacts.
CS
CS stands for chip select, a control pin used by SPI devices to tell which connected device should listen. It matters when you connect more than one SPI module to the same microcontroller, because each device usually needs its own CS pin.
FPC
FPC stands for flexible printed circuit, a flat flexible cable or connector style often used where space is tight. It matters because this breakout needs the correct pin count and pitch FPC cable to connect reliably to the display or high-speed interface.
Headers
Rows of metal pins used to plug a module into a breadboard or connect it with jumper wires. Pre-soldered headers make the module easier to use straight away without needing to solder the pins yourself.
I2C
I2C is a two-wire communication bus used by many sensors and small modules. It matters because several I2C devices can share the same two wires, but each device needs a compatible address and your controller must support I2C.
IRQ
Short for interrupt request, a signal pin a device uses to get a microcontroller’s attention when something needs handling. It matters here because I2C communication with the sensor requires connecting the IRQ pin to a suitable input pin.
PCB
A printed circuit board is a rigid board with copper tracks that connect electronic parts without loose wires. For this kit, the PCBs also form the airplane shape, so they are both the circuit base and part of the finished model.
solder jumper
A solder jumper is a small pair or group of pads on a circuit board that can be bridged or cut with solder to change a hardware setting. It matters because changing modes may require careful soldering rather than just changing software.
SPI
A fast serial communication bus often used for displays, memory cards, and sensors. It matters because SPI devices need specific pins for clock and data, plus a separate chip-select line for each device.
SRAM
Fast temporary memory used by a processor while a program is running. More SRAM helps with projects that handle larger data buffers, networking, displays, or more complex code.
STEMMA QT
A small plug-in connector system for I2C boards that lets you connect compatible sensors and controllers without soldering. It matters because it can make wiring faster and less error-prone, especially when adding several small modules to a project.
TFT
A thin-film transistor display is a common type of colour LCD used for graphics screens. Knowing a product is for TFTs helps you check that the driver board matches the display’s connector, resolution, backlight, and signalling method.
