Add a dazzling 5×5 grid of 25 addressable RGB NeoPixels to any QT Py or Xiao board with this compact BFF (Best Friend Forever) add-on. The tiny SK6805 LEDs (1.5 × 1.5 mm each) pack vivid colour into a minimal footprint, powered directly from the QT Py's USB Type-C connection.
The PCB is designed to mount on the back of your QT Py or Xiao — solder it directly for a permanent build or use pin/socket headers for a removable setup. The NeoPixel data line connects to pin A3 by default, with solder jumpers to select A1 or A2 instead. External power and data solder pads are also available for advanced configurations.
Key Features
- 25 RGB NeoPixels – 5×5 grid of SK6805 addressable LEDs (1.5 × 1.5 mm)
- QT Py / Xiao Compatible – Mounts directly on the back of any QT Py or Xiao board
- Configurable Data Pin – Default A3 with solder jumpers for A1 or A2
- USB-C Powered – Draws 5V from the QT Py's USB connector
- 3.3V Logic Compatible – SK6805 LEDs run happily on 5V power with 3.3V data input
- External Pads – Solder pads for 5V, GND, and data input for advanced wiring

Jargon buster
Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.
- GND
- GND is the ground or reference connection (0 V) for a circuit. When connecting two devices together, their grounds must be joined so both agree on what counts as a low or high signal.
- Headers
- Rows of connector contacts on a fixed pitch (commonly 2.54 mm) used to link a board to a breadboard, jumper wires, or another board. They come as male pin headers and female socket headers; when a module ships with pre-soldered headers it can be used straight away, whereas bare pads require soldering the pins yourself.
- IoT
- Short for Internet of Things, meaning physical devices that connect to networks or the internet to send data or be controlled remotely. It matters if you want projects such as connected sensors, remote controls or classroom data-logging activities.
- LED
- A light-emitting diode (LED) is a small electronic component that emits light when current flows through it in the correct direction. Because it only conducts one way, its polarity matters, and a through-hole LED must be soldered the correct way around to light up.
- NeoPixel
- A type of addressable LED system where colour data is sent along a single digital data line from one LED or controller to the next. Compatibility matters because the timing and signal format must match for the lights or driver board to respond correctly.
- PCB
- A printed circuit board (PCB) is a board, usually rigid, with etched copper tracks that connect electronic components together without loose wiring. Components are mounted on the board and signals route between them through the copper layout.
- RGB
- Short for red, green and blue, the three primary colours of light that are mixed in varying amounts to make a wide range of colours. In electronics RGB can refer to an LED or pixel that blends these three colours, or to a colour signal or interface that carries separate red, green and blue channels.
- USB Type-C
- USB Type-C is a small, reversible USB connector used for power, data and sometimes video on many modern devices. The connector itself does not guarantee a particular speed or voltage, so check the supported USB version, data rate and whether it carries more than 5V via USB Power Delivery.
- USB-C
- USB-C is a small, reversible USB connector that can carry power, data and, on some devices, video over a single cable. The same connector can range from charging only to high-speed data, so the functions a given port actually supports vary.
