Good device for testing colour e-paper

A good test platform for colour E-Ink display but mostly intended as a static picture frame example, RP2040/pi pico based and easy to tinker with, sample program is easy to modify and tinker with. no wireless comms built in so its intended for static display, but that is what E-ink is best at, you can get data to it over USB serial (if you write your own software for it) or the SD card, no other IO pins are broken out other than the two buttons. I'm using it to display my beer tap menu (a bit of HTML+CSS rendered out to a pixel perfect 800x480 bitmap) and it doesn’t require any power to do that, and will just get manually updated every month or so as kegs are swapped out. If you want to use this as a photo frame, pre-process your images before converting to dithered bitmaps, up the contrast and saturation to make the most of the limited colours and saturation of the e-paper technology. it can look great when you are far enough away to not see the dither patterns, remember these displays cant display in-between colours, only the 7 fixed colours so you need dithering to do anything with gradients or tones.
