This 3.5-inch display module combines a 480 × 320 IPS panel with capacitive touch for ESP32 and Arduino projects. Its optical bonding process laminates the touch panel and display together, improving clarity while helping reduce reflections and dust ingress.

For wiring, the module offers both a standard SPI interface and DFRobot’s GDI port. With compatible FireBeetle 2 controllers such as ESP32-E and ESP32-C5, the included 18pin-FPC cable provides a tidy single-cable connection without breadboards or jumper wires.

An onboard MicroSD card slot lets you store images and UI assets directly on the module. It is compatible with the Arduino GDL library, with examples for building interface elements such as progress bars, buttons and numeric keypads. The package includes the 3.5" 480 × 320 IPS capacitive touch screen ×1, 18pin-FPC cable ×1 and 14pin-2.54 black single row pin header ×1.

Features:

  • Optical bonding: Touch panel and display are seamlessly laminated for improved clarity.
  • Higher Transmittance: Brighter and more vivid images.
  • Reduced Glare: Better readability under bright lights.
  • Dust Prevention: No gap means no dust accumulation inside the screen over time.
  • 5-Point Capacitive Touch: Offers a smooth, responsive smartphone-like interaction experience.
  • IPS panel: Provides a 178° viewing angle for side readability.
  • Dual-interface design: Standard SPI for universality and DFRobot GDI port for a single-cable connection to FireBeetle controllers.
  • Plug-and-play GDI connectivity: Connects to DFRobot FireBeetle 2 series controllers using the included FPC cable.
  • Onboard MicroSD card slot: Stores images and UI assets without external breakout boards.
  • Arduino GDL library support: Compatible with examples for progress bars, buttons and numeric keypads.

Jargon buster

Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.

breakout
A breakout is a small circuit board that makes a tiny or hard-to-solder component easier to connect to with standard pins. It matters because this OLED module can be wired into a microcontroller project without needing to solder directly to the display’s fine contacts.
ESP32
ESP32 is a family of microcontroller modules with built-in wireless features such as Bluetooth and WiFi. Knowing this product uses an ESP32-based module helps explain how it provides wireless serial communication and firmware update features.
FPC
FPC stands for flexible printed circuit, a flat flexible cable or connector style often used where space is tight. It matters because this breakout needs the correct pin count and pitch FPC cable to connect reliably to the display or high-speed interface.
HMI
HMI stands for Human-Machine Interface, meaning the screen, buttons, or controls a person uses to interact with a device. For this product, it suggests the display is intended for control panels, dashboards, robot faces, or other user-facing interfaces.
IoT
Short for Internet of Things, meaning physical devices that connect to networks or the internet to send data or be controlled remotely. It matters if you want projects such as connected sensors, remote controls or classroom data-logging activities.
IPS
IPS is a type of LCD panel that keeps colours and contrast more consistent when viewed from an angle. This matters for small displays that may be mounted in a dashboard, handheld project, or enclosure where the viewer is not always looking straight on.
microSD card
A microSD card is a small removable memory card used to store files such as audio tracks. For this product, the card is where the sound files live, so its capacity and formatting can affect how many sounds you can use.
SPI
A fast serial communication bus often used for displays, memory cards, and sensors. It matters because SPI devices need specific pins for clock and data, plus a separate chip-select line for each device.
Transmittance
Transmittance describes how much light passes through the display or touch panel layers. Higher transmittance can make the screen appear brighter or clearer for the same backlight power.
