This 2×20 (40-pin) IDC box header is the matching connector for 40-pin GPIO ribbon cables used with Raspberry Pi models that have a 40-pin GPIO header. Solder it onto perfboard to create a breakout point for your Pi's GPIO, or use it in any custom PCB design.

Key Features

  • 40-Pin (2×20) – Matches the Raspberry Pi 40-pin GPIO layout
  • Keyed IDC Box Header – Ensures correct ribbon cable orientation
  • Through-Hole Mount – Solder to perfboard or custom PCBs
  • 2.54 mm Pitch – Standard 0.1″ pin spacing

Compatibility

  • Raspberry Pi 5, 4, 3, 2, B+, A+
  • Raspberry Pi Zero / Zero W / Zero 2 W
  • Any 40-pin GPIO ribbon cable

Ideal For

  • Custom GPIO breakout boards
  • Connecting a Pi to perfboard via ribbon cable
  • PCB designs requiring a keyed GPIO connector

Package Contents

  • 1× 2×20 pin IDC box header
Warning: This header is for 40-pin Raspberry Pi models only. It is not compatible with the original Raspberry Pi Model A/B which uses a 26-pin GPIO header.

Jargon buster

Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.

breakout
A breakout is a small circuit board that makes a tiny or hard-to-solder component easier to connect to with standard pins. It matters because this OLED module can be wired into a microcontroller project without needing to solder directly to the display’s fine contacts.
GPIO
General-purpose input/output pins are microcontroller pins you can set in software to read signals, switch devices on and off, or connect to peripherals. The number of GPIO pins matters because it limits how many buttons, LEDs, sensors, and other parts you can wire directly to the board.
PCB
A printed circuit board is a rigid board with copper tracks that connect electronic parts without loose wires. For this kit, the PCBs also form the airplane shape, so they are both the circuit base and part of the finished model.
