Add letters, numbers and symbols to your project with this green 14-segment alphanumeric LED display. Compared with a standard seven-segment display, the extra segments make it much easier to show readable characters as well as numerals.
The display uses a common-anode configuration and provides four 14-segment digits, with a decimal point available for each digit. It is suited to compact readouts, status panels, clocks, counters and other maker projects where a simple text or numeric display is needed.
Each LED segment has a maximum forward voltage of 3.6V and a continuous forward current of 20mA, so choose suitable current-limiting resistors or a compatible LED driver for your circuit.
Features:
- Green display
- Four 14-segment digits
- One decimal point per digit
- Displays numbers, characters and symbols
- Common-anode display
Specifications:
- Polarity: Common Anode
- Dimensions: 40mm x 11.95mm
- Max forward voltage: 3.6V
- Continuous forward current: 20mA
Jargon buster
Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.
- common-anode
- A wiring arrangement where several LEDs or LED segments share a common positive (anode) terminal and are switched individually on their negative (cathode) side. Common-anode and common-cathode parts, such as RGB LEDs, seven-segment displays, matrices and strips, are not interchangeable without a suitable driver.
- continuous forward current
- The amount of current a diode can carry in its normal conducting direction for an extended time without overheating. This rating helps you choose a diode that can safely handle the load in your circuit.
- LED
- A light-emitting diode (LED) is a small electronic component that emits light when current flows through it in the correct direction. Because it only conducts one way, its polarity matters, and a through-hole LED must be soldered the correct way around to light up.
- LED driver
- An LED driver is a control chip or circuit that supplies and switches power to LEDs. For a display board, it reduces the number of microcontroller pins needed and handles tasks like lighting the right segments and adjusting brightness.
- Seven-segment display
- A common numeric display made from seven LED bars arranged to form digits. It is good for numbers but limited for letters, so comparing it with a fourteen-segment display helps you judge what kind of text the product can show.
