This blue LED module is a four-digit alphanumeric display designed for projects that need to show more than just numbers. With 14 segments per digit, it can present letters, numbers and symbols, plus a decimal point on each digit.
It uses a common-anode configuration and includes four 14-segment digits. The LEDs have a maximum forward voltage of 3.6V and a continuous forward current of 20mA.
It is a good fit for custom indicators, instrument panels, clocks and other embedded builds where a compact character display is needed.
Jargon buster
Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.
- common-anode
- A wiring style for multi-colour LEDs where the positive side is shared and each colour channel is controlled on the negative side. This matters because common-anode and common-cathode LED strips are not interchangeable without a suitable driver.
- LED
- A light-emitting diode is a small electronic component that lights up when current flows through it in the correct direction. In this kit, LEDs create the flashing effect, so polarity and correct soldering matter for the project to work.
