Just works
As others said, this was wired for SPI, not I2C. Works beautifully woth the Pi Pico and adafruit's library on the Arduino IDE.

Initially we wired the display to a Mega 2560 for I2C, but were unable to get the example to work. Eventually, by looking at the back of the PCB which has helpful notes about I2C, 4SPI and 3SPI we realised the panel was actually delivered configured for 4-wire SPI (and cannot be easily changed, since it's surface-mounted resistors). When we wired the panel for 4-wire SPI and used the 128x64 SPI example which comes with the Adafruit SDD1306 library, the panel worked perfectly. Very cool display, we highly recommend it.
