Add 16-bit stereo audio output to a Teensy project with this DIY audio adapter kit built around the PT8211 digital-to-analogue converter (DAC). It is designed as a clean, high-fidelity sound source for audio-based builds using the Teensy Audio Library.

The adapter provides a true stereo, line-level signal suitable for connecting to amplified speakers, a stereo receiver, a mixing board or a separate amplifier. It is not a headphone driver, does not include an onboard amplifier, and is not intended to directly drive unpowered speakers or standard headphones.

The kit includes the essential components needed to build the audio adapter. Basic soldering is required, and once assembled it can be connected to your Teensy to support projects built with the Teensy Audio Library.

This is a good fit for makers adding line-level stereo output to synthesiser, sampler, effects, sound playback or other embedded audio projects.

Jargon buster

Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.

DAC
A digital-to-analogue converter turns numbers from the microcontroller into a real analogue voltage. It matters if you want to generate simple waveforms, audio-style signals, or variable control voltages rather than just on/off outputs.
