This AI-Thinker LoRa module is built on the Semtech SX1278 chip and operates at 433 MHz with a communication range of up to 10 km. Using Semtech's patented LoRa modulation technology, it achieves an exceptional sensitivity of −148 dBm with +20 dBm (100 mW) transmit power, delivering long-range, low-power wireless communication.

The module communicates via half-duplex SPI and supports multiple modulation modes including LoRa, FSK, GFSK, MSK, GMSK, and OOK. Its compact stamp-hole package with shielded housing and included spring antenna makes integration straightforward.

Key Features

  • LoRa Modulation – Up to 10 km range with excellent interference rejection
  • High Sensitivity – Down to −148 dBm receiver sensitivity
  • +20 dBm Output – 100 mW constant RF output power
  • 433 MHz Band – Sub-GHz frequency for long-range penetration
  • Multiple Modulation Modes – FSK, GFSK, MSK, GMSK, LoRa, and OOK
  • SPI Interface – Half-duplex communication with microcontrollers
  • Programmable Bit Rate – Up to 300 kbps

Jargon buster

Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.

dynamic range
Dynamic range describes how wide a span of values a sensor can measure, from very low to very high. For a light sensor, a wide dynamic range means it can work in dim indoor settings as well as bright sunlight without changing hardware.
IoT
Short for Internet of Things, meaning physical devices that connect to networks or the internet to send data or be controlled remotely. It matters if you want projects such as connected sensors, remote controls or classroom data-logging activities.
LoRa
LoRa is a long-range, low-power radio technology often used for telemetry and remote sensors. It matters here because the connector and pinout are compatible with some LoRa telemetry products, even though this module uses Bluetooth instead.
RF
RF means radio frequency, referring to signals used for wireless communication and other high-frequency electronics. A low-noise, stable power supply is important for RF circuits because power noise can affect signal quality and measurements.
SPI
A fast serial communication bus often used for displays, memory cards, and sensors. It matters because SPI devices need specific pins for clock and data, plus a separate chip-select line for each device.
