A 3-ply conductive thread made entirely from 316L stainless steel fibre. Thin enough to sew by hand with a medium-eye needle, yet strong and smooth — ideal for wearable electronics, e-textile projects, and sewable circuits.

With a resistivity of approximately 10 ohms per foot, this thread can drive LEDs and other low-current components (under ~100mA). Unlike silver-based conductive threads, stainless steel will not oxidise over time, so your projects stay working and are safe to wash.

Key Features

  • 316L Stainless Steel – Corrosion-resistant, won't oxidise like silver thread
  • 3-Ply Construction – Strong and smooth for hand sewing
  • Low Resistivity – ~10 ohms per foot, suitable for driving LEDs
  • Washable – Safe for machine and hand washing
  • 18 Metres (60ft) – Wound on a small bobbin

Specifications

  • Material – 316L stainless steel
  • Ply – 3
  • Resistance – ~10Ω/ft (~33Ω/m)
  • Current Rating – Up to ~100mA
  • Length – 18m (60ft)

Ideal For

  • Wearable electronics and e-textile projects
  • Sewable LED circuits and soft switches
  • Conductive embroidery and smart garments
  • Projects requiring washable conductive connections

Package Contents

  • 1× Bobbin of 3-ply stainless steel conductive thread (18m/60ft)
Tip: This thread is slightly stiff (similar to waxed thread) and not ideal for touchscreen-compatible gloves. For glove fingertip pads, try the Stainless Thin Conductive Yarn instead.

Jargon buster

Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.

conductive thread
Thread made with metal or other conductive fibres so it can carry electricity while being sewn into fabric. It matters for wearable and textile projects because it can replace wire, but it has more resistance than normal hookup wire.
LED
A light-emitting diode is a small electronic component that lights up when current flows through it in the correct direction. In this kit, LEDs create the flashing effect, so polarity and correct soldering matter for the project to work.
resistivity
Resistivity describes how strongly a material resists the flow of electricity. For conductive thread, stable resistivity helps the electrical behaviour stay predictable along the stitched path.
Thread
A low-power wireless mesh networking standard designed for smart home and IoT devices. It matters because Thread devices can relay messages through each other, helping build reliable networks for sensors and controllers.
