This smart UPS expansion board adds battery-backed power management to the LattePanda IOTA, giving portable and embedded builds a laptop-like uninterruptible power supply. It uses the standard HID-UPS protocol, so Windows 10 and Windows 11 can recognise it as a battery device without drivers or custom programming.

The board accepts three user-installed 18650 Li-ion cells and can keep a LattePanda IOTA running through power interruptions, helping protect uptime and data integrity. Power can be supplied via USB Type-C PD or a DC jack, while the onboard MX1.25 10-pin connector links to the LattePanda board.

Hardware-level configuration is handled by an onboard 3-position DIP switch for functions such as auto power-on, safe shutdown on power loss and battery charging limit settings. After system shutdown, the board enters an ultra-low-power standby state to reduce battery drain.

Battery cells are not included. This board is compatible only with LattePanda IOTA and is intended for Windows 10 / Windows 11 HID-UPS support. The package includes UPS Expansion Board x1, 10-Pin Cable x1, M3 Hex Standoff x4, M3 Screw x4 and User Manual x1.

Features:

  • Plug-and-play HID-UPS: Natively recognised as a battery device in Windows 10 and Windows 11.
  • Battery monitoring: Allows battery status monitoring directly from the Windows taskbar.
  • Native power policies: Supports automated low-battery shutdown or sleep mode without software installation or configuration.
  • Hardware-level power management: Uses an onboard 3-position DIP switch for direct configuration.
  • Auto power-on: Can be configured to power on automatically when external power is applied.
  • Graceful shutdown: Can be configured for safe system shutdown upon power loss.
  • Charging limit setting: Supports setting the battery charging limit.
  • Extended runtime: Supports up to 8 hours of runtime with three high-capacity 3500mAh 18650 lithium-ion cells.
  • Ultra-low standby: Draws approximately ~30μA after the LattePanda IOTA performs a shutdown.

Specifications:

  • USB Type-C: Supports PD 20V input
  • DC Jack: 5.5×2.5mm (center positive), 12–24V input
  • Minimum Power Requirement: ≥36W
  • Battery Configuration: 3 × 3.7V 18650 Li-ion batteries (user-installed)
  • Max Charging Current: 1A
  • Static Standby Current: ~30μA (after system shutdown)
  • Onboard Output Interface: MX1.25 10-Pin connector (for LattePanda board)
  • OS Compatibility: Windows 10 / Windows 11 (native HID-UPS support)
  • Compatible Board: LattePanda IOTA
  • Dimensions: 88mm × 70 mm

Well suited to untethered mobile robots, portable cyberdecks or workstations, off-grid data loggers and IoT hubs, interactive art installations and kiosks, and resilient edge AI devices.

Jargon buster

Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.

center positive
Center positive describes the polarity of a barrel-style DC power plug, where the centre pin is positive and the outer sleeve is negative. Using a power supply with the wrong polarity can stop the board from working or damage it.
DC
DC means direct current, where electricity flows in one constant direction, as supplied by batteries, USB ports and many plug-pack power supplies. When a product specifies DC, it runs from a DC supply rather than mains AC, so you need to provide the correct voltage and polarity.
DIP switch
A DIP switch is a small set of physical on/off switches used to configure hardware settings without software. It matters because changing features such as auto power-on or charging limits may require moving these tiny switches correctly.
HID
Human Interface Device is a USB device class used for keyboards, mice, gamepads and similar controls. If a board supports HID over USB, it can act like an input device to a computer without needing a custom driver.
IoT
Short for Internet of Things, meaning physical devices that connect to networks or the internet to send data or be controlled remotely. It matters if you want projects such as connected sensors, remote controls or classroom data-logging activities.
Type-C
USB Type-C (USB-C) is a small, reversible USB connector used for charging, power, and data transfer on many modern devices. A Type-C port or plug indicates the cable and charger connection needed to power, charge, or communicate with a device.
UPS
An uninterruptible power supply is a battery-backed power system that keeps a device running when external power is unplugged or fails. For an embedded computer, it helps prevent sudden shutdowns that can corrupt files or interrupt a project.
USB Type-C
USB Type-C is a small, reversible USB connector used for power, data and sometimes video on many modern devices. The connector itself does not guarantee a particular speed or voltage, so check the supported USB version, data rate and whether it carries more than 5V via USB Power Delivery.
