This Holybro SiK Telemetry Radio kit is a compact, lightweight open-source radio link for sending serial data over more than 300m out of the box. It is designed as a simple cable replacement for telemetry, RTK correction data (RTCM), MAVLink traffic, or basic serial output such as Serial.print() statements.
The kit includes two radio modules with antennas, a Micro USB to USB-A cable, a Micro-USB to Android OTG adapter cable, a Micro USB to Type-C adapter, a JST-GH-6P to JST-GH-6P cable for Pixhawk Standard flight controllers, and a JST-GH-6P to Molex DF13 6P cable for Pix32, Pixhawk 2.4.6 and similar controllers.
Each radio has a microB USB connector and UART access, using an FT230x USB-to-serial IC for easy connection between a remote radio and a base computer or phone. The radios are configured with simple AT commands, and the included JST-GH cables make it straightforward to connect to TX/RX pins.
It is plug-and-play for Pixhawk Standard and other flight controllers, and can also be adapted for Arduino projects, rovers, weather stations and other remote serial devices. Documentation includes a Quick Start Guide, AT Command Set and Ardupilot tutorial material for setting up SiK radio links.
Features:
- Open-source SiK firmware
- RP-SMA connector
- 2-way full-duplex communication through adaptive TDM UART interface
- Transparent serial link
- MAVLink protocol framing
- FT230X is a USB to BASIC UART IC
- Interchangeable air and ground modules 915 or 433MHz (you should purchase the model which is appropriate for your country/region)
- Micro-USB port
- 6-position JST-GH connector
Specifications:
- Frequency: 915MHz
- Maximum output power: 100 mW maximum output power (adjustable)
- Receive sensitivity: -117 dBm receive sensitivity
- Range: more than 300m out of the box
- Full duplex transparent serial link: 57600baud
- Supply voltage: 5V DC (from USB or JST-GH)
- Transmit current: 100mA at 20dBm
- Receive current: 25mA
- Serial interface: 3.3V UART
- Weight: 23g with antenna
A useful telemetry link for Pixhawk-based aircraft, RTK correction transport, robotics and any project that needs a transparent serial radio connection.
Jargon buster
Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.
- AT command set
- An AT command set is a text-based control language sent over a serial terminal to configure a device. It matters because you can change settings such as baud rate and flow control without writing custom firmware.
- full-duplex
- Full-duplex means data can be sent and received at the same time. It matters for interactive serial links where commands and responses may need to travel in both directions without taking turns.
- JST-GH
- JST-GH is a small locking connector family commonly used where vibration or compact wiring matters. Knowing the connector type helps you choose matching cables and check whether it will plug into your existing telemetry or GNSS hardware.
- RTK
- Real-Time Kinematic positioning is a GNSS technique that uses correction data from a base station to greatly improve location accuracy. It matters if you need centimetre-level positioning for robotics, mapping, surveying, or tracking rather than ordinary metre-level GPS accuracy.
- SMA
- A threaded coaxial connector commonly used for antennas. It matters because you need antennas with matching SMA connectors, or suitable adapters, for the LTE and GNSS antenna ports.
- TX/RX pins
- TX and RX are the transmit and receive pins used for serial communication between electronic devices. They matter when wiring the board to another controller because TX usually connects to the other device’s RX, and the voltage level must be compatible.
- UART
- UART is a simple serial connection that sends data over separate transmit and receive wires, often labelled TX and RX. It matters because this module is designed to replace a wired UART cable with a wireless link while keeping the same serial data format.
