The DS1307 Real Time Clock module developed by one of our designers: Waiman. The module comes fully assembled and pre-programmed with the current time (ok, so it's our current time - MST). The included Lithium coin cell battery (CR1225 41mAh) will run the module for a minimum of 9 years (17 years typical) without external 5V power. The DS1307 is accessed via the I2C protocol.
Except the DS1307 real time clock, the module also integrate the I2C EEPROM chip(24C32) and the DS18B20 sensor interface. The I2C EEPROM makes it possible to save the sensor data easily without spending too much microcontroller source. And the DS18B20 interface with the pull-up resistor embeded will be helpful to extend temperature monitoring feature for your project.

Jargon buster

Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.

CR1225
CR1225 is a specific size of 3 V coin cell battery, about 12 mm wide and 2.5 mm thick. Checking this code matters because coin cell holders only fit certain battery sizes, and battery capacity affects how long a beacon can run.
DS18B20
A common digital temperature sensor often sold in waterproof probe form. It matters here because the kit does not include temperature measurement, and a DS18B20 is the suggested add-on if your water readings need temperature context.
EEPROM
A type of non-volatile memory that keeps stored data even when power is turned off. In a sensor module, it can be used to store settings or calibration data so they do not need to be re-entered every time.
I2C
I2C is a two-wire communication bus used by many sensors and small modules. It matters because several I2C devices can share the same two wires, but each device needs a compatible address and your controller must support I2C.
microcontroller
A microcontroller is a small computer on a chip that runs your program and controls connected inputs and outputs. For this product, it is the part that reads buttons and sensors, drives the display and speaker, and communicates over Bluetooth.
