Three add-on boards that clip onto the black pin headers on the back of a Makey Makey, unlocking the inputs the front of the board doesn't expose.
The three backpacks
- Player 2 - adds a second set of controls so two students can play the same game at once
- Makey Mouse - turns everyday objects into mouse movement and clicks
- Makey Max - breaks out the full set of remaining keys for bigger, more ambitious builds
Also included: 14 alligator clip wires, an instruction card and a Makey Makey sticker.
Compatibility: requires a Makey Makey Classic v1.4 or later - check the rear headers on your existing boards before ordering for a class set. The backpacks themselves need no software or setup; press them on and the extra inputs are live.
Jargon buster
Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.
- alligator clip
- An alligator clip is a spring-loaded metal clip used to make temporary electrical connections to wires, terminals or test points. It is useful for quick bench testing, but it is less secure than a screw terminal or locking connector.
- Headers
- Rows of connector contacts on a fixed pitch (commonly 2.54 mm) used to link a board to a breadboard, jumper wires, or another board. They come as male pin headers and female socket headers; when a module ships with pre-soldered headers it can be used straight away, whereas bare pads require soldering the pins yourself.
