A compact digital MEMS microphone module based on the MSM261S4030H0 chip, providing 24-bit I2S digital audio output. The built-in I2S interface connects directly to DSPs and microcontrollers without requiring an external codec, simplifying audio capture designs. An on-board SK9822 RGB LED provides visual feedback with two-wire colour control.
The omnidirectional, bottom-ported microphone delivers high sensitivity with a 140 dB SPL acoustic overload point and 57 dB signal-to-noise ratio, making it well-suited for voice capture, audio processing, and AI applications.

Jargon buster
Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.
- DC
- DC means direct current, where electricity flows in one constant direction, as supplied by batteries, USB ports and many plug-pack power supplies. When a product specifies DC, it runs from a DC supply rather than mains AC, so you need to provide the correct voltage and polarity.
- DSP
- Digital signal processing means using software or hardware to analyse or modify signals such as audio, vibration, or sensor readings. A board suited to DSP is useful when a project needs fast maths for filtering, synthesis, or real-time signal analysis.
- I2S
- I2S is a digital audio interface used to send sound data between chips, such as from a microcontroller to an audio amplifier or DAC. It matters if your project needs cleaner digital audio output than a basic buzzer or PWM signal can provide.
- LED
- A light-emitting diode (LED) is a small electronic component that emits light when current flows through it in the correct direction. Because it only conducts one way, its polarity matters, and a through-hole LED must be soldered the correct way around to light up.
- MEMS microphone
- A tiny microphone made using micro-electromechanical systems, the same style of miniature manufacturing used in many phone sensors. It lets the board detect sound without needing an external microphone, which is useful for noise-reactive projects and simple audio input.
- RGB
- Short for red, green and blue, the three primary colours of light that are mixed in varying amounts to make a wide range of colours. In electronics RGB can refer to an LED or pixel that blends these three colours, or to a colour signal or interface that carries separate red, green and blue channels.
