Turn regular 3.3V sensors into wireless BLE sensor nodes with this 5 pack of Fermion BLE Sensor Beacons from DFRobot. Each beacon broadcasts data using Bluetooth Low Energy, so nearby BLE-capable devices such as smartphones and ESP32 boards can scan and receive the data without pairing.
The Fermion version includes an 11-bit ADC, support for digital, analogue and I2C sensors, and multiple I/O pins that can be multiplexed to SDA/SCL. It is designed for IoT sensor deployments such as smart farms, offices, factories and warehouses, where running long sensor cables is inconvenient.
Broadcast parameters can be configured using PC software, including formats such as iBeacon and Eddystone, broadcast interval, dynamic sensor power control and trigger broadcasts. Configuration requires a 3.3V USB-TTL tool, and the beacon can only be burned once, so test with “Run in RAM” before using “Burn/Program”. I2C configuration information cannot be tested through “Burn in RAM”; follow the product wiki carefully before burning.
This pack includes Fermion BLE Beacon Sensor x5 and 8Pin connector x10.

Jargon buster
Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.
- ADC
- An analogue-to-digital converter reads a changing voltage and turns it into a number the microcontroller can use. It matters when connecting analogue sensors such as light, sound, or variable-resistor sensors.
- BLE
- BLE stands for Bluetooth Low Energy, a Bluetooth mode designed for low power use and broad compatibility with modern phones and computers. It connects well to battery-powered and mobile devices, including Apple hardware, though it behaves differently from Bluetooth Classic and its serial-style profiles.
- breakout
- A breakout board carries a small or fine-pitched component and brings its connections out to standard, breadboard- and header-friendly pins. Describing a part as a breakout means it can be wired into a project without soldering directly to the component's tiny contacts.
- DC
- DC means direct current, where electricity flows in one constant direction, as supplied by batteries, USB ports and many plug-pack power supplies. When a product specifies DC, it runs from a DC supply rather than mains AC, so you need to provide the correct voltage and polarity.
- Eddystone
- Eddystone is a Bluetooth beacon format originally defined by Google for broadcasting identifiers or small pieces of data. Support for Eddystone matters if your project needs to work with software or receivers that expect that beacon format.
- ESP32
- ESP32 is a family of low-cost microcontroller chips and modules from Espressif with built-in WiFi and Bluetooth. They support programmable firmware and over-the-air updates, and are commonly programmed with toolchains such as the Arduino core and ESP-IDF.
- I2C
- I2C is a two-wire communication bus used by many sensors and small modules. It matters because several I2C devices can share the same two wires, but each device needs a compatible address and your controller must support I2C.
- iBeacon
- iBeacon is Apple’s Bluetooth beacon format for broadcasting an identifier that nearby devices can recognise. Support for iBeacon matters when building proximity or location projects that need compatibility with apps or systems using that format.
- IoT
- Short for Internet of Things, meaning physical devices that connect to networks or the internet to send data or be controlled remotely. It matters if you want projects such as connected sensors, remote controls or classroom data-logging activities.
- PCB
- A printed circuit board (PCB) is a board, usually rigid, with etched copper tracks that connect electronic components together without loose wiring. Components are mounted on the board and signals route between them through the copper layout.
- RAM
- RAM (random-access memory) is fast, temporary memory a device uses for working data while it is running; in its common volatile form, its contents are lost when power is removed. Some devices offer a mode that applies settings to RAM only, which is handy for testing changes temporarily because they are not stored permanently and disappear at power-off.
- SDA/SCL
- SDA and SCL are the two signal lines used by an I2C bus: data and clock. Seeing these names helps you identify the correct connections when wiring I2C devices, even though Qwiic cables usually hide that wiring for you.
- SHT40
- The SHT40 is a Sensirion digital temperature and humidity sensor. It reports ambient temperature and relative humidity, and those readings are sometimes used to compensate other measurements such as CO₂.
- UART
- UART is a simple asynchronous serial interface that sends data over separate transmit and receive wires, usually labelled TX and RX, with both ends set to the same baud rate. It is a common way for microcontrollers and other serial devices to exchange data.
