When your system needs a stable 12V rail from a variable DC supply, this industrial-grade buck-boost converter is built to deliver. It accepts a wide 8 to 36VDC input range and regulates it to 12V for loads up to 6A, or 72W.

The buck-boost design automatically switches between stepping voltage down and stepping voltage up to maintain a constant output. This makes it especially useful for 12V battery applications, such as SLA or LiFePO4 packs, where the voltage can vary significantly between charging and discharge.

The unit is a fully enclosed DC block designed for set-and-forget reliability, with extensive internal heat sinking and protection circuitry for rugged environments. A datasheet for the WG8-36S1206 is provided by the manufacturer.

Features:

  • Buck-boost regulation: Seamlessly switches between stepping voltage down and stepping voltage up to maintain a constant output.
  • Battery applications: Suited to 12V battery applications like SLA or LiFePO4.
  • Rugged design: Fully enclosed DC block for set-and-forget reliability.
  • Thermal management: Extensive internal heat sinking.
  • Protection circuitry: Includes protection circuitry for harsh environments.
  • Manufacturer's warranty: 2-Year Manufacturer's Warranty

Specifications:

  • Input Voltage: 8 to 36VDC
  • Input Current: 11A DC Max
  • Quiescent Current: 25mA
  • Efficiency: 85%
  • Output Voltage: 12V
  • Output Current: up to 6A
  • Output Power: 72W
  • Output Voltage Accuracy: ±1%
  • Ripple: 160mVp-p
  • Switching Frequency: 220kHz
  • Dimensions: 74mm x 74mm x 32mm
  • Weight: 290g

A practical choice for battery-powered 12V equipment, vehicle-adjacent projects, and other installations where the input voltage may sit above or below the required output.

Jargon buster

Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.

boost converter
A boost converter is a power circuit that raises a lower input voltage to a higher output voltage. It matters here because the board can power a sensor that needs a higher supply voltage while still using a single connector for power and data.
