Jargon buster
Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.
- passive heatsink
- A heatsink is a piece of metal shaped to draw heat away from a hot component, and passive means it works without a fan. This matters because it can keep a processor cooler and quieter, but the case itself may become hot during use.
- Shield
- An add-on board that plugs into a main controller board to give it extra features such as sensing, motor control or communication. Knowing a product supports shields helps you judge whether it can connect neatly into an existing maker-board setup.
- SMA
- A threaded coaxial connector commonly used for antennas. It matters because you need antennas with matching SMA connectors, or suitable adapters, for the LTE and GNSS antenna ports.
