Keep an FPGA board running cooler with this compact Alchitry Fn V2 cooling add-on. It uses a blower-style fan to force fresh air over the FPGA, helping manage heat in projects where the logic is working hard.
The board also includes an oversized heatsink that attaches to the FPGA for extra thermal mass and better heat transfer. A solder jumper can be closed if you want to control the fan from pin B36 instead of having it run continuously.
Documentation available for the board includes a schematic and a 3D Model (STEP), making it easier to plan integration into an enclosure or review the hardware connections.
Features:
- Blower cooling: Forces fresh cool air over the FPGA.
- Included heatsink: Comes with an oversized heatsink to attach to the FPGA.
- Optional fan control: Solder jumper can be closed to allow control over the fan via pin B36.
- Documentation: Schematic available.
- Documentation: 3D Model (STEP) available.
Specifications:
- Blower fan size: 3x3x1cm
- Heatsink size: 25x25x5mm
- Fan current: ~550mA on the 3.3V rail
- Fan power: ~1.75W
- Fan control pin: B36
A handy cooling upgrade for FPGA projects that need directed airflow and a fitted heatsink.
Jargon buster
Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.
- solder jumper
- A solder jumper is a small pair or group of pads on a circuit board that can be bridged or cut with solder to change a hardware setting. It matters because changing modes may require careful soldering rather than just changing software.
