micro:bit boards are not included. Plan on two per kit - one flies the drone, one becomes the handheld controller. We sell micro:bit boards separately.
Air:bit 2 is a quadcopter that students assemble themselves, then program in MakeCode. Nothing arrives flight-ready: the frame, motors, wiring and flight controller all go together on the bench first, which is where most of the learning sits. Students meet thrust, mass, battery capacity and PID-style tuning as practical problems rather than diagram labels.
Once it is built and the code is flashed, it can be flown from a second micro:bit, or from an iPad or Android tablet. Because the airframe is a known quantity, senior students can iterate on it - redesign a part, laser-cut or 3D print a replacement, and see whether the change actually helps.
Best suited to upper primary and secondary, and to makerspaces with room to fly indoors.
