Adafruit NeoPixel NeoMatrix - 64 RGBW - Cool White - ~6000K

Discontinued

A dazzling 8×8 RGBW LED matrix with 64 individually addressable NeoPixels, each containing red, green, blue, and a dedicated cool white (~6000K) LED element. The dedicated white provides clean, bright illumination while full RGB gives you over 4 billion colour combinations with 32-bit control.

Only one microcontroller pin is needed to control all 64 pixels. Two 3-pin connection ports allow easy daisy-chaining of multiple panels for larger displays.

Key Features

  • 64 RGBW NeoPixels – 8×8 matrix with dedicated cool white (~6000K) LED element per pixel
  • 32-Bit Colour – 8-bit PWM per channel across 4 channels (R, G, B, W)
  • Individually Addressable – Control each pixel independently with single-pin data
  • Chainable – Connect DOUT to the next panel's DIN for larger displays
  • Two 3-Pin Ports – Input and output connections for easy wiring and chaining
  • Compact Form Factor – 8×8 grid on a single PCB

Power Requirements

  • Voltage – 5V DC
  • Max Current – Up to 3.5A per panel (all LEDs full white); typical use is 1–2A
  • Recommended Supply5V 2A supply for a single panel; 5V 10A supply for multiple chained panels

Compatibility Notes

  • Works with Arduino (8 MHz+), ESP32, and other real-time microcontrollers
  • Not compatible with Linux-based boards or interpreted microcontrollers (netduino, Basic Stamp)
  • Requires an RGBW-compatible NeoPixel library — using a standard RGB library will produce incorrect results
  • Each panel uses 256 bytes of RAM (4 bytes × 64 pixels); an Arduino Uno supports up to ~4 panels before running low

Wiring

  • Solder wires to the input port: +5V, GND, and DIN (digital pin 6 recommended for Arduino)
  • Connect a common ground between the 5V power supply and the microcontroller
  • To chain panels: connect first panel's DOUT to second panel's DIN, plus shared 5V and GND

Ideal For

  • LED displays and scrolling text
  • Pixel art and animations
  • Status indicators and data visualisation
  • Combined colour and white lighting effects
