This 8-megapixel USB camera module is built around the Sony IMX179 CMOS sensor, delivering up to 3264×2448 resolution with autofocus. It's driver-free via the UVC protocol — just plug in and start capturing HD photos and video on Windows, Linux, macOS, and Android.

The built-in digital microphone captures audio within a 5-metre radius, and the compact 38×38 mm form factor makes it easy to embed into enclosures or mount alongside a Raspberry Pi or Jetson Nano. A USB port design simplifies integration when your SBC is inside a protective case.

Key Features

  • 8MP Sony IMX179 Sensor – 3264×2448 resolution, 1/3.2" sensor size
  • Autofocus – 75° field of view, distortion-free optics

  • Driver-Free (UVC) – Plug-and-play on all major operating systems
  • USB 2.0 High Speed – Bus-powered at 5V, 160–260 mA
  • Compact Module – 38 × 38 mm for easy embedding
  • Hardware Button – Supports photo capture via button press

Jargon buster

Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.

dynamic range
Dynamic range describes how wide a span of values a sensor can measure, from very low to very high. For a light sensor, a wide dynamic range means it can work in dim indoor settings as well as bright sunlight without changing hardware.
JPEG
A compressed image file format commonly used for photos. It matters because the camera sends already-compressed snapshots, which are easier to store on an SD card or transmit over a slow serial link than raw image data.
lux
Lux is the standard unit for measuring how much light falls on a surface, similar to how a light meter reports brightness. A sensor that outputs lux gives readings that are easier to compare between rooms, outdoor conditions, and different projects.
UVC
UVC is a short-wavelength, high-energy band of ultraviolet light often used in germicidal lamps and curing applications. A separate UVC reading matters if your project needs to monitor or verify UVC sources rather than just detect general UV light.
