Jargon buster

Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.

fps
fps means frames per second, or how many video images are captured or displayed each second. A higher fps generally gives smoother motion, which helps when the camera or the scene being viewed is moving.
HDMI
HDMI is a common digital video and audio connection used by computers, media players, and many displays. If a display kit has HDMI input, it is usually much easier to test with a single-board computer because it can act like a normal monitor.
JPEG
A widely used compressed image file format for photographs, where some detail is discarded to keep file sizes small. When a device produces JPEG output, the images are already compressed, making them easier to store on an SD card or send over a slow link than uncompressed raw data.
UVC
UVC is a short-wavelength, high-energy band of ultraviolet light often used in germicidal lamps and curing applications. A separate UVC reading matters if your project needs to monitor or verify UVC sources rather than just detect general UV light.
