SparkFun Essential Sensor Kit

The SparkFun Essential Sensor Kit is a curated collection of 15 sensors and components covering acceleration, force, vibration, infrared, ambient light, temperature, and more. It's a great starting point for beginners learning to interface sensors with Arduino and other microcontrollers, and a handy addition to any experienced maker's parts bin.

What You Can Sense

• Acceleration – Triple-axis accelerometer (MMA8452Q) with range up to ±8g
• Temperature – TMP36 precision analog sensor with linear voltage output
• Force/Pressure – 0.5" force-sensitive resistor (FSR)
• Flex/Bend – Resistance increases as the sensor is flexed
• Light – Mini photocell (1kΩ in light, 10kΩ in dark)
• Infrared – IR receiver (TSOP382) and IR LED (940–950nm) pair
• Magnetic Fields – Hall effect sensor (US1881) for proximity detection
• Magnetic Switching – Insulated reed switch for non-contact activation
• Tilt/Orientation – AT407 tilt switch
• Vibration/Knock – Piezo elements for tap and vibration detection
