The RN-52 is a compact wireless audio module designed to make high quality stereo audio streaming easier to add to embedded projects. It suits hands-free car audio, remote media centre control, and 2-channel audio streaming applications.

Configuration and control are handled with a simple ASCII command language, making it practical to drive from a microcontroller or other serial host. The module provides a UART interface, user-programmable I/O pins, stereo speaker outputs, microphone inputs, and a USB port.

Supplier documentation includes a datasheet and command reference guide for integration and configuration.

Features:

  • FCC Certified
  • Fully configurable UART
  • Dual-channel, differential audio input and output
  • Supports iAP profile
  • Low power sleep mode

Specifications:

  • Maximum over air data rate: 3.0Mbps
  • Operation: 3.0 ~ 3.6V

A good fit for makers building compact wireless audio links, hands-free audio interfaces, or serial-controlled media accessories.

Jargon buster

Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.

microcontroller
A microcontroller is a small computer on a single chip that runs a stored program and controls connected inputs and outputs such as buttons, sensors, displays and communication interfaces. In a device built around one, it is the part that executes the code and coordinates the device's behaviour.
UART
UART is a simple asynchronous serial interface that sends data over separate transmit and receive wires, usually labelled TX and RX, with both ends set to the same baud rate. It is a common way for microcontrollers and other serial devices to exchange data.
