The PowerBoost 1000C is a DC/DC boost converter with a built-in LiPo battery charger and smart load-sharing circuit. It takes any 3.7V LiIon/LiPoly battery and boosts the output to 5.2V for powering 5V projects like Arduino, Raspberry Pi, or BeagleBone — even while the battery is charging.
The load-sharing charger automatically switches to USB power when available, functioning as an uninterruptible power supply (UPS). The charger is powered via Micro-USB and charges at up to 1,000 mA, with yellow (charging) and green (complete) status LEDs.
Key Features
- TPS61090 Boost Converter – 5.2V output from 3.7V LiPo, 2A internal switch
- 1,000 mA+ Output – Sufficient for power-hungry portable projects
- Smart Load Sharing – Charge and boost simultaneously without output interruption
- 1,000 mA LiPo Charger – Via Micro-USB, with charge status LEDs
- Low Battery LED – Red indicator when voltage drops below 3.2V
- Enable Pin – Completely disconnect output by pulling EN to ground
- 90%+ Efficiency – 5 mA quiescent when enabled, 20 µA when disabled
- iOS Data Resistors – On-board 1,000 mA charge-rate resistors for Apple devices

Jargon buster
Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.
- boost converter
- A boost converter is a power circuit that raises a lower input voltage to a higher output voltage. It matters here because the board can power a sensor that needs a higher supply voltage while still using a single connector for power and data.
- LED
- A light-emitting diode is a small electronic component that lights up when current flows through it in the correct direction. In this kit, LEDs create the flashing effect, so polarity and correct soldering matter for the project to work.
- LiPo
- A lithium polymer rechargeable battery commonly used in portable electronics projects. It matters because LiPo batteries need correct charging circuitry and care, and this board includes hardware intended for that battery type.
- PCB
- A printed circuit board is a rigid board with copper tracks that connect electronic parts without loose wires. For this kit, the PCBs also form the airplane shape, so they are both the circuit base and part of the finished model.
- UPS
- An uninterruptible power supply is a battery-backed power system that keeps a device running when external power is unplugged or fails. For an embedded computer, it helps prevent sudden shutdowns that can corrupt files or interrupt a project.
