The IQaudIO Pi-DigiAMP+ is a HAT-compliant DAC and amplifier board for the Raspberry Pi, combining a high-quality 24-bit/192 kHz DAC with a 2×20W Class D stereo amplifier on a single board. Based on the Texas Instruments TAS5756m chipset, it delivers full-HD audio quality with no soldering required.

The board connects directly to the Raspberry Pi's GPIO header using digital I2S audio, reducing CPU load compared to USB audio solutions. When powered externally, the Pi-DigiAMP+ also supplies power to the Raspberry Pi. Driver support is built into Raspbian and compatible with popular audio distributions.

Key Features

  • Full-HD Audio – Up to 24-bit / 192 kHz playback
  • 2×20W Class D Amplifier – Direct speaker output, no external amp needed
  • TAS5756m DAC – High-quality Texas Instruments chipset
  • HAT CompliantEEPROM auto-configuration, standard mounting holes
  • Powers the Pi – External PSU powers both the amp and the Raspberry Pi
  • Hardware Volume Control – Integrated ALSA volume control
  • I2S Audio – Digital connection reduces CPU load vs USB audio
  • GPIO22 Mute Control – Software-controllable amplifier mute
  • I/O Access – Additional GPIO signals for IR sensors, rotary encoders, I2C devices

Specifications

  • DAC Resolution – Up to 24-bit / 192 kHz
  • Amplifier – 2×20W Class D stereo
  • Chipset – Texas Instruments TAS5756m
  • Audio Interface – I2S (via GPIO header)
  • Mute Control – GPIO22 (muted on power-up by default)
  • Power – External supply required (powers Pi in parallel)
  • Compatibility – Raspberry Pi 3, 2, A+, B+ (not compatible with original Model A/B)
  • ESD Protection – Advanced on-board protection

Compatible Software

  • Raspbian (built-in driver support)
  • RuneAudio, Volumio, Moode, PiCorePlayer, PiMusicBox, OpenELEC

Ideal For

  • Standalone Hi-Fi systems
  • Retro radio restorations
  • Portable boom boxes and in-car audio
  • Kiosk and display audio solutions

Package Contents

  • 1× IQaudIO Pi-DigiAMP+
Note: External power supply, speakers, and Raspberry Pi are sold separately. The amplifier is muted on power-up — see documentation for GPIO22 mute control examples.

Jargon buster

Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.

DAC
A digital-to-analogue converter turns numbers from the microcontroller into a real analogue voltage. It matters if you want to generate simple waveforms, audio-style signals, or variable control voltages rather than just on/off outputs.
EEPROM
A type of non-volatile memory that keeps stored data even when power is turned off. In a sensor module, it can be used to store settings or calibration data so they do not need to be re-entered every time.
ESD protection
ESD protection helps protect electronics from damage caused by static electricity discharges. It is useful on development boards because cables, sensors and modules are often plugged and unplugged during prototyping.
GPIO
General-purpose input/output pins are microcontroller pins you can set in software to read signals, switch devices on and off, or connect to peripherals. The number of GPIO pins matters because it limits how many buttons, LEDs, sensors, and other parts you can wire directly to the board.
I2C
I2C is a two-wire communication bus used by many sensors and small modules. It matters because several I2C devices can share the same two wires, but each device needs a compatible address and your controller must support I2C.
I2S
I2S is a digital audio interface used to send sound data between chips, such as from a microcontroller to an audio amplifier or DAC. It matters if your project needs cleaner digital audio output than a basic buzzer or PWM signal can provide.
