The Sharp GP2Y0A02YK0F is an infrared distance measuring sensor with a detection range of 20 to 150 cm. It uses triangulation — combining an infrared emitter (IRED) and a position-sensitive detector (PSD) — to output an analogue voltage proportional to the distance of the detected object. Because it relies on triangulation rather than simple intensity measurement, the sensor is largely unaffected by the colour or reflectivity of the target object, ambient temperature, or measurement duration. The analogue output makes it straightforward to interface with any microcontroller's ADC input.
