Dot/Bar Display Driver - LM3916 (VU Taper)

The LM3916 is an analogue-controlled LED driver that uses a logarithmic/VU-taper scale, making it well-suited to audio applications such as VU meters and power meters. A single analogue input drives a string of 10 or more LEDs in either bar mode (all LEDs below a level light up) or dot mode (only a single LED illuminated at a time).
Minimal external components required — a 1.2V full-scale meter needs only one resistor plus ten LEDs. One additional resistor programs the full-scale range from 1.2V to 12V, independent of supply voltage. LED brightness is adjustable with a single potentiometer.
