Adafruit HUZZAH CC3000 WiFi Shield with Onboard Antenna

Discontinued

The Adafruit HUZZAH CC3000 WiFi Shield adds 802.11b/g WiFi connectivity to your Arduino in a convenient shield form factor. Built around the TI CC3000 module with a built-in TCP/IP stack, it supports open, WEP, WPA, and WPA2 security with TKIP and AES encryption. The on-board antenna delivers range comparable to a smartphone, and the shield includes a 3.3V regulator and level shifting for 3V or 5V logic compatibility.

The shield also includes a microSD card socket for data logging and a reset button. It plugs directly onto Arduino Uno, Mega, and Leonardo/Micro boards. The CC3000 supports TCP and UDP in both client and server mode with up to 4 concurrent sockets, using a BSD-style socket interface.

Key Features

  • 802.11b/g WiFi – Open, WEP, WPA, and WPA2 security with TKIP and AES
  • SPI Interface – Fast communication with IRQ pin for asynchronous connections
  • Built-in TCP/IP Stack – BSD socket interface with TCP and UDP client/server support
  • Up to 4 Concurrent Sockets – Handle multiple connections simultaneously
  • On-Board Antenna – FCC-compliant layout with excellent range
  • MicroSD Card Socket – Built-in data logging capability
  • 3.3V Regulator – Handles 350 mA peak current draw
  • Level Shifting – Compatible with 3V and 5V logic levels
  • DHCP, DNS, and Ping Support – Built-in networking essentials

Ideal For

  • Adding WiFi to Arduino shield-compatible projects
  • IoT sensor nodes with SD card data logging
  • Simple web server hosting from Arduino
  • Remote monitoring and control

Package Contents

  • 1× Adafruit HUZZAH CC3000 WiFi Shield – Fully assembled and tested
  • 1× Male header strip for Arduino connection
  • 1× 2×3 female header for ICSP port (Mega compatibility)
Note: The CC3000 does not support Access Point (AP) mode — it can connect to an existing access point but cannot act as one. Compatible with Arduino Uno, Mega, and Leonardo/Micro. Light soldering required to attach headers.
Tip: The CC3000 module is being phased out. For new projects, consider the Adafruit WINC1500 WiFi Shield which offers SSL support, soft-AP capability, and improved reliability.
